Diagnosis and Therapy of the Acute Radiation Syndrome

چکیده
Fast and competent diagnosis of the acute radiation syndrome is of primary importance to ensure an optimal therapy of irradiated persons. In order to assist medical doctors the decision support system MODRAT (MODel based RAdiation syndrome Treatment) has been developed and will be presented in this paper. Within MODRAT a new biomathematical time delay model of human granulopoiesis is utilized. Prediction results will conclude the paper.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis secondary to T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with membranous tonsillitis
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening syndrome of excessive immune activation, which is characterized by fever, hepatosplenomegaly, cytopenias, hyperferritinemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and/or hypofibrinogenemia, and evidence of hemophagocytosis. Secondary HLH is often seen in adults and categorized based on autoimmune, infections-related, and malignancy-associated etiol...

Background: Acute radiation dermatitis is a very common side effect of radiation therapy in large numbers of cancers including breast cancer. Despite high prevalence rate of acute radiation dermatitis and also wet desquamation, a few trials on prophylaxis of this complication using topical treatment have been conducted. Despite effectiveness of topical corticosteroids in treatment of acute radi...

The development of secondary malignancy (SM) is the most worrisome long-term complication of childhood cancer. Acute myeloid leukemia is the most prevalent neoplasm that occurs after treatment with alkylating agents and topoisomerase II inhibitors. Pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB) is a rare lung neoplasm in children. Type II and type III of this cancer are markedly aggressive and have a recurrent...
متن کاملResidual DNA double strand breaks correlates with excess acute toxicity from radiotherapy
Introduction: A high risk for development of severe side effects after radiotherapy may be correlated with high cellular radiosensitivity. To enhance radiation therapy efficiency a fast and reliable in-vitro test is desirable to identify radiosensitive patients. The aim of present study was to identify the mechanism of radiation induced DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and DSB r...
